This paper aims to bring the analysis of chants from the book of chants Chitara Octochorda, which dates back to 1701. The book includes eight liturgical periods, but because of the large amount of chants, I decided to stick closely to the Advent period with the emphasis on Marian chants. Through the work of authors such as Franjo Dugan, AnĊelko Klobuĉar, Branko Lazarin, Mato Lešćan, Albe Vidaković and Izak Špralja, I have analysed contemporary versions of the chants. The chants are analysed starting with the original autograph, followed by the analysis of rhythmic permutations. The texts of the chants are also analysed, taking into account changes in melody that have occurred in the contemporary versions. Furthermore, the specifications of each chant are presented. The analysis includes five chants and several remakes of each done by various authors. The chants analysed are: O rumena zoro jasna, Poslan bi anđel Gabrijel, Zlatnih krila, O, Marijo, ti sjajno zornice and Zdravo, Djevice. The conclusion outlines the contribution of Chitara Octochorda to the liturgical music in that these notes are a template for further processing that are visible in this paper. It introduces the concepts of Musicam sacra, mysticism of liturgy and explains the close relationship of Chitara Octochorda with the Church, as well as its importance for the Croatian culture.
