Abstract (english) The nineteenth century was marked by great changes and new insights. Impressionist artists looked at the world differently and transferred the knowledge to the canvas. In the mid- 19th century, scientific and artistic cognition was marked by empiricism. Artists in such an environment relied on reason and nature, painting a new image of the world and man. Before the advent of Impressionism, Classicist painting, with its characteristic depiction of fine art, relied on ancient art. Impressionism took themes from nature. Classicist painting dogma remained long throughout the 19th century in terms of academicism. Academism has established a traditional way of painting. The most notable artists of Impressionism are: Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Edgar Degas and Auguste Renoir. They brought a new understanding and revolutionized painting based on the same opinions, each of which leads its own search for the study of form, conveying the fullness and joy of existence in everyday life. Impressionists reflect reality empirically. They record their impressions of the impression and use their personal temperament to paint reflections of reality. They abandon the traditional tonal modeling and build, ie. they compose pure forms into one whole. The colors used are: primary (red, blue, yellow), secondary (orange, purple, green) and tertiary (tones of these colors). The Impressionists faithfully used the new painting paradigm, based on new scientific knowledge about light and color.
