Abstract
U svom diplomskom radu duboko sam zaronio u evoluciju tipografi- je, s naglaskom na prijelaz od tradicionalnih do varijabilnih pisama. Proučavao sam povijest tipografije, od njenih ranih oblika pa sve do suvremenih digitalnih inovacija. Posebno sam se osvrnuo na utjecaj tehnologije na razvoj tipografije, pogotovo na razvoj računalnih inovacija 20. stoljeća, koje su imale ključnu ulogu u oblikovanju današnjih tipografskih pisama. Glavni fokus ovog rada stavljen je na revolucionarnu pojavu varijabilnih fontova, koji predstavljaju novu eru u svijetu tipografije i grafičkog dizajna. Ovi fontovi omogućuju nam ne samo veću fleksibilnost, već i precizniju kontrolu nad tipografskim elementima. Osim teorijskog pregleda, detaljno sam opisao praktični proces kreiranja varijabilnog fonta, od postavljanja projekta do tehničkih i kreativnih izazova s kojima sam se susreo. Kroz ovaj diplomski rad želio sam pokazati da varijabilni fontovi nisu samo suvremeni trend, već snažan alat koji nam pruža neograničene mogućnosti u oblikovanju i personalizaciji tipografije za današnje komunikacijske potrebe.
Abstract (english)
In my thesis, I took a deep dive into the evolution of typography, with an emphasis on the transition from traditional to variable letters. I studied the history of typography, from its early forms to contemporary digital innovations. I particularly referred to the impact of technology on the development of typography, especially on the development of 20th century computer innovations, which played a key role in shaping today's typefaces. The main focus of this thesis is on the revolutionary emergence of variable fonts, which represent a new era in the world of typography and graphic design. These fonts allow us not only greater flexibility, but also more precise control over typographic elements. In addition to the theoretical overview, I have described in detail the practical process of creating a variable font, from project setup to the technical and creative challenges I have encountered. Through this thesis, I wanted to show that variable fonts are not just a contemporary trend, but a powerful tool that provides us with unlimited possibilities in shaping and personalizing typography for today’s communication needs.
